Q: won't let me add new event to Calendar. also stopped synching with MacBook Air over icloud

My iPad stopped synching calendars over iCloud with my laptop (MacBook Air). I turned off Calendars in iCloud on the iPad then turned it back on. It still doesn't synch and now won't even let me add an event on the iPad calendar alone. Suggestions?
