Q: DisplayPort link failure after wakeup

I have two related issues.

 

Set up - Thunderbolt Display, 2015 MacBook Retina 15 inch (Lid closed)

Software - Windows 10 x64 - BootCamp is up to date and all video drivers are also up to date.

 

When Windows 10 sleeps and I then wake up I get about 60% of the time the message in the attached image.Capture.PNG

 

Also when I restart my Macbook after this has occurred and I want to boot into Windows then I cannot see the OSX / Windows choices that you normally have.  At the moment I guess that they are there hit the right arrow key and then enter which chooses the Windows Disk.

 

What is going here?

    Did you ever get an answer to your question or figure it out? I have the same model MBP but I haven't tried replicating your issue (but I'm gonna try if I can get mine to do the same).

     

    I have some problems w/ an external Apple thunderbolt display and Windows 10 as well; if I boot Win10 w/ the display attached all works as expected but if I disconnect the monitor and reconnect it later none of the attached peripherals work (keyboard, mouse, ethernet) but the monitor will display picture. All my USB ports are rendered inert on both the monitor and the MBP itself after reconnecting the monitor as well. If I try to enable/disable the ethernet adapter in the device manager it will hang and if I try a reboot or shutdown Windows hangs during the reboot/shutdown and I am forced to hold the power button down until the unit powers off. Do you have any of these symptoms in addition to the one you posted?

    I have not yet found an answer.

     

    I am not sure I am seeing similar problems with all USB ports but I will text.

     

    I have not been using Windows recently but will check it out again.

    I was able to replicate your issue w/ my MBP with an external HP Elite L2201x monitor using a Thunderbolt to DisplayPort adapter; I wasn't using the MBP w/ the lid closed either. The MBP went to sleep and when I resumed the laptop's internal monitor functioned normally but the external monitor did not have a picture and I received the same warning dialog. Unplugging and re-plugging the Thunderbolt connection was a functional workaround.

     

    Side note, I used a mid-2012 MBP with the same HP monitor and same cable with a Win7 bootcamp and had issues with the monitor not waking from sleep with the bootcamp 4.x drivers but once bootcamp 5.x was released and I upgraded, the problem went away. Past experience tells me this is a driver issue. I filed a bug report on my issue, I recommend you do the same with this one, squeaky wheel and all: bugreport.apple.com
