Mini Displayport to HDMI not working after update to El Capitan

I'm running a late 2010 Macbook Air. I previously ran it to my 55' Element via Minidisplayport to HDMI adapter and it worked flawlessly until I updated to El Capitan.

I have researched about as much as I can but I cannot find any info with similiar problems as mine. The computer detects the TV now when I plug it in but will not mirror my laptop display onto my TV.

I had no issues with this before updating to El Capitan.

Any suggestions?

So far I have tried to reset the SMC ONCE but it did nothing, not 100% sure I did it correctly.

Hi Buttscratcha,

It sounds like you are having an issue with your MacBook Air not using your external display since you updated your operating system to Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Is that right?

I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article - Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac.

There is a link in the article to an article on how to reset the System Management Controller which I will give here as well - Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac.
