Q: Contacts sometimes don't sync between iPhone and iMac

Contacts and Calendar entries are synced between my phone and computer (and iCloud).  When I make or change an entry on one device, it shows up on the other device in about 4 seconds.  Occasionally, I find an entry (or a change to an entry) that for some reason did not sync.  It appears on one device but not on the other.  This situation will never correct itself.  How do I manually update the devices so that all entries are synced?  (iPhone 5, IOS 9.2, OS X El Capitan 10.11.2)
