Q: Converting 59.94 to 29.97 for multiclip

I'm cutting a three camera shoot. Two of the cameras were shooting at 29.97. The third shot at 59.94. How can I down-convert the frame rate of the 59.94 footage so it plays normally at 29.97fps? I tried Cinema Tools and changed the frame rate but it came out in slow motion. I then tried to re-render in QT, but that too resulted in slo-mo footage. How to I convert the third camera to 'normal speed' 29.97fps so I can multi clip all three cameras? Thanks!

OK, so your footage is 29.97 and 59.94.  Well, converting it shouldn't change the speed at all....just don't CONFORM in Cinema Tools, that'll slow it down. Don't used Cinema tools for this. Take the footage into Compressor and use that to compress to ProRes 29.97

    59.94 fields per second = 29.97 frames per second.  It's the same frame rte as the other cameras ... just expressed in fields instead of frames.

    So how do I get QT to play it back at a normal rate so I can multi clip it to the other cameras at 29.97?

    OK...what are the EXACT formats here? WHy do you think one frame rate is 59.94 while the others are 29.97? As David mentioned, if a camera shot 1080i59.94, it shot 29.97fps.  The "i" indicated FIELDS per second, two fields per frame, so 29.97fps. BUT...if two cameras shot 1080p29.97, and one shot 1080i59.94...so two shot progressive and one interlaced...all are 29.97fps, but since one camera is interlaced it might have an issue linking. Not positive, but a thought.

     

    OR...did you shoot 1080p59.94, or 720p59.94? That is actually 60fps.  If so...use Compressor and a ProRes 29.97 preset to convert the footage.

    I looked at the frame rates in Cinema Tools (where I originally tried to change the frame rate) and all three are Progressive, not Interlaced.

    When I recompress the 59.94 footage it just comes out slow motion. It doesn't kick out every other frame so I have normal motion.
