Q: Group Messaging button/option not available

Sometime last year (2015), possibly after an upgrade I lost the option in my Message Settings to turn on Group Messaging on my iPhone 5S.  This could have been after an iOS upgrade though not a 100% sure.  Basically I can send an SMS or iMessage to a group of people though when they reply I receive the message as an individual text and not part of the 'group'...extremely frustrating.  Last week I upgraded my phone to an iPhone 6S thinking this would solve the problem though to no avail, still no ability to on Group Messaging on.

I've done a reset on 'Reset Network Settings' and 'Reset All Settings' though still no Group Messaging.  Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this situation??

    Hi jaccstar,

Take a look at the resource below for initial troubleshooting for your issue of your replies to group messages appearing as individual texts.  Has anything changed with your carrier plan?  Messages is part of the iOS software, so updating or reinstalling the latest version may be a necessary step to address the issue.

If you can‘t send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Go to Settings > Messages. Check that the type of message that you're trying to send is turned on (iMessage, SMS, MMS, or Group messaging):

If messages won't send to a certain person or you need help with group messages

Sometimes your messages won't send to a particular contact, or you might have issues with group messages. For example, you might reply to a group conversation and receive your own message. Or you might get a new phone number and see your old one listed as a recipient in an existing group conversation.

Delete the conversation* that has the issue and start a new conversation:

    1. Open Messages and look at your list of conversations.
    2. Swipe from right to left on the conversation you want to delete. Then tap Delete.
    3. Open Messages, tap  , and enter the phone number or email address of your contact or contacts.
    4. Write a new message and tap send.

*When you delete a conversation, you won’t be able to recover it. If you want to save parts of conversations or their attachments, you can take screenshots. You can also touch and hold an attachment or message bubble, then tap More > Save.

Restart your device and check for updates

    1. Restart your device.
    2. Check for a carrier settings update.
    3. Check for an iOS software update.

Send a group message with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If group messages that are sent as MMS appear as individual texts, you might need to turn on Group Messages in Settings > Messages.

If you aren’t using iMessage, you can use SMS. SMS/MMS messages are texts and photos that you send to other cell phones or iOS devices. These messages appear in green text bubbles on your device.

To use SMS/MMS, you need a text-messaging plan. Contact your carrier for more information.

    Take care,
