I had an older version of the iphone where I had an apple id. Now I have bought a new iphone and am using the same id on both phones. If I delete anything, example contacts etc on the old phone, it gets erased from the new one as well. Help manage

That is the point. You have the same information across all devices. If you want different information, then use a different id.

Why would you want that? DO you not want your same information accessible from all of your devices?
