Russian text, how to encode

Hi friends, its the first time I'm using an apple device and I just found a problem with my russian texts (not all of them, I can write and create my own documents without a problem, and most of the emails I receive are fine).

But some of the texts I receive show weird signs instead of normal russian text f. ex. "œÒÎÂÌˉËʇ Ì ––Ó"

I used to work with windows, using the "notepad++" program. When I had this problem, I used to encode to ansi, change to win1251 cyrillic, then re-encode to uff-8 and the text became normal again. But I can't find the way to repeat that actions with the TextEdit program (I've been trying other options like Editra and TextWrangler but I couldn't find any way to do the same as in notepad++ ).

It would be great if you could help me to solve this problem. Thanks.
