Cannot send email from IPHONE

I have always been able to send mail from my Apple account on my Iphone until today when it has stopped without me knowingly changing anything.

I have tried turning the Wifi off in case our network guy had been playing with something and a test email I sent a few moments ago has now gone it took ages. Emails sent with Wifi turned on just don't go. I will try this when connected to another wifi network but it's not looking good.

I don't want to reset the phone to factory defaults. I've tried removing the Icloud account - made no difference. Emails sent on the device from other email accounts send without a problem whether connected to wifi or via phone data.

Please note this is on an IPHONE 6 not a MAC.

An error message will popup after a very long time 15 minutes or so, saying "Connection to the outgoing server "p23-smtp.mail.me.com" failed. Additional Outgoing mail servers can be configured in Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars"

Any help will be gratefully received.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2

My account is doing the same thing. It does it on cellular though (not sure if it's doing it on Wifi). It started when I took my phone to the USA a few days ago and now that I am back home, it is still doing it. I was roaming on T-Mobile and AT&T but even though I was getting the error message, I was still receiving email. The last email I received was yesterday while in the USA, and now home I haven't received any email (possibly I haven't got any), and I can't send email as it fails due to not being able to connect to the server.

If it is not an Exchange or iCloud email account you have not entered a password for the outgoing mail server (SMTP). Email accounts need the user ID and password to be entered twice, once for incoming, and once for outgoing. Some cellular carriers provide a built-in SMTP server that does not require a password when you are using cellular data. That it why it might work on cellular but not on WiFi.

Well I'm wrong. Mine didn't resolve itself. It only works on wifi and doesn't work on cellular data. It stopped working on cellular data when I was in the USA and still doesn't work on cellular back in Canada.

It seems I'm not able to delete only my iCloud email and set up again. I guess I would have to delete the entire iCloud account from settings and add it again. I'm likely going to try that, but am tired right now so want to make sure I won't cause any problems by doing so...(mess up family sharing or something like that)

You posted a while back but I've just had exactly the same problem. After googling for 3 hours!!!! and messing around I eventually figured it out:

In settings, then mail, click on the mail account in question, then the IMAP, then (outgoing mail server) SMTP, then primary server then retype your password (that is your mail password). Worked for me....eventually.
