hi, I can run a mkv movie w/o bucking from iPad via WLAN to Apple TV - Samsung TV, but not with iMac (*2014) in the same network ... Resolution 1280 x 720. Should be somewhere in config of Mac, but where should I start with my investigations ... ?

I'd start with network interference then to network set up.
thanks Winston, yes, I tried to change the position of my iMac within the room and ran parallel my iPad - no success (if this is what you mean w/ network interferences), for network setup - I did it again with Apple TV...
The network setup wasn't that efficient since I am not an expert in this.
So I would rephrase my problem in one statement:
Why do I have a smooth mkv video with my iPad and not with the iMac via Apple TV (iMac (21,5", End 2013), 2,7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB) ...
