Q: iMac Yosemite 10.10.5: Kernel Panic Question (w. Log)

Hey Everyone,

So I have recently been noticing Kernel Panics on my iMac. I haven't a clue whats going on. After researching, it may be hardware related? I recently installed a printer/drivers, but everything appears to be fine. Took a shot at disk utility, but I am still noticing the issue. I am still running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 if that helps.

Can someone help me figure this log out? Where should I begin looking?

Thanks,

Mike

I'm seeing this same kernel panic on a bunch of iMac14,1 and MacBookPro11,1. They all have the exact same backtrace which seem to point to the intel graphics chip. They're mostly all 10.10.5, but i do have one thats 10.11.4. It's about 20 total Macs out of about 200. Most point to com.apple.webkit but many reference plugin-container as the BSD processes that was running at the time. I think that mainly because most people are using Safari or Firefox when the crash happens. The last loaded kext seems to be different enough on most of them to rule it out as a cause, but who knows.

@EastBayMike Have you gotten anywhere with this? Apple store help at all?

    you could try the

however, could you provide a broader range of situation when the kernel panic occurs?

Your reply was to EastBayMike, but I'll give you my side. I don't have physical access to most of these Macs, but a handful are lab Macs. I have a lab of 13 identical iMac14,1 where 6 of them are getting between 3 and 6 kernel panics in the last 30 days. The other 7 have 0. The Macs have nothing plugged into them, no antivirus software, no admin access for users, no odd ball software. They all panic'd while the BSD process com.apple.webkit was open.

I ran the hardware diagnostic on one of them that had just had a panic and it turned up no issues. I tried going to multiple websites and opened multiple tabs and tried for an hour to get it to crash, but nothing.

I'm getting close to blaming this on a bug in Flash player. I've only seen this issue affect Firefox and Safari by the reference of plugin-container or com.apple.webkit in the kernel panic logs. Chrome no longer supports NPAPI on their browsers. And then there's this message from Adobe:

    April 21, 2015

In today's release, we've updated Flash Player NPAPI for OSX to resolve a bug that was impacting certain Mac video cards.
