Updated Flash, Now Safari 9 Wont Play Many Videos

Hi.

I updated Flash to 20.0.0.267 on my Early 2011 17" MacBook Pro (10.10.5). Now on a lot of web pages Safari (9.0.2) won't play videos. It will load them and I can see what SHOULD be playing, even scroll the videos and see stills from different locations in the videos, but no amount of pressing Play/Pause will get the video to PLAY.

YouTube and videos on Facebook seem to play Ok. But other sites no. I thought it might be the Flash update, but to test it I downloaded Chrome and the videos that are "stuck" not playing in Safari play fine in Chrome. In Safari Preference under Advanced I un-checked "Stop plug-ins to save power". Made no difference. In the Flash Player settings under Advanced I deleted "Browser Data and Settings". That made no difference.

Anybody know what's going on? How to fix it?

Thanks,

Jeff

Dominic,

Thanks. Un-installing and re-installing seems to have fixed it.

But a couple notes, it says:

"9. Delete the following directories:

<home directory>/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash\ Player

<home directory>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash\ Player"

....I could not find these directories. Are they now hidden?

Also, even when I had Flash un-installed (and did a restart) for Safari (and it would not run on Safari) Flash still ran on Chrome. But this what it says in my Flash control panel now:

"NPAPI Plug-in version 20.0.0.267 is installed.

PPAPI Plug-in is not installed."

So, seems to work Ok now. Thanks,

Jeff

I am having this problem too. I can hear the audio but there is no video. I have done everything in this discussion and more.

Problem with all browsers except Chrome but the screen flashes in Chrome so it is not usable.

I removed and reinstalled flash.

I have erased and installed IOS from scratch

Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I did safe mode and the problem was still there. I created another account and it was still there. The HDD was erased and reloaded with the OS two days ago. I have a case opened with Apple and I am not at level two support. So far we have gone through all of the usual recommendations to fix the problem and it is still not working. If Apple fixes it then I will post the fix here. Thanks!
