I did and they told me:

Since your subscription was created through iTunes, you need to cancel it by following the steps here. Your account will then go back to the Free ad-supported service on your next renewal date.

As for the refund, we're unable to process it for you since your payment was also made through iTunes. It'll be great if you can get in touch with them for your request.

Use that link to contact iTunes Support. Use the instructions in the support document link you were provided to cancel the subscription, and use the link that imobl provided to contact iTunes support to request the refund. To be honest, even though it was done through iTunes, they pass the money to Spotify. I don't know that iTunes would refund you, but the only way to know for sure is to contact them.

That's all well and good. So why is it then that if we sign up for premium using the app on iphone it's 12.99 a month vs 9.99 through spotify directly? And i'm talking about using the subscribe button in spotify on iphone. And since Spotify themselves are now recommending doing it on the website vs on the iphone app... it's APPLES issue, not spotifiy. Apple is charging 3 dollars more, and that 3 dollars is NOT going to spotify.

Of course, when Apple processes payment for any 3rd party or developer, they charge a fee for that service. It costs Apple money to maintain the infrastructure and service for the payment processing system they provide, so of course they get paid for it. Just as VISA charges every merchant a fee for every transaction they process for the merchant.

But your subscription is still with spotify, not Apple. Apple merely provides the store front and secure payment processing system. Spotify should still be providing you assistance with canceling and refunds and such as you are a Spotify subscriber.

OK, this is not like a credit card fee. It's the same 30% cut they take from app developers who sell apps on the store. Free apps don't incur this fee, paid apps do. However, it is VERY unclear to a lot of people that if you click "subscribe" in an app that is already installed, that Apple is taking a cut of that too. Especially, in the case of Spotify, it is definitely not like a "service fee" as they are charging $3 more a MONTH over what spotify charges, not just a 1 time fee. It's not a "service" they are providing at that point as it is automatic payment. My card, my apple id. It's not costing them JACK. They are doing it to push more people to Apple Music, and it's getting annoying the little petty crap Apple is starting to pull these days.

Well, if you think that an "automatic payment" costs nothing to process, you're living in a fantasy world. The same infrastructure that processes a one time payment also has to process each and every recurring payment as it comes due. It does indeed cost a company to maintain the payment processing system and to actually process those monthly charges. In fact, it costs just as much to process a single payment as it does each and every monthly subscription payment as each payment is still an independent transaction through the system.

If you don't like Apple's fees then don't do business with them. And if you have an issue you wish solved, please start your own thread and don't hijack onto soemone else's thread.
