lightning to lightning cable?

I want to hardwire connect my iPad to my iPhone. Both have lightning ports. I'm surprised I don't find any lightning-to-lightning cables. I want to transfer video files from my iPhone to my iPad in an environment that has no wifi or cell coverage at all. No cloud. No email. No Airdrop.

So does anyone know of such a cable?

Thank you Phil0124 and Meg St._Clair for your replies.

I'm amazed that something so simple as a lightning-to-lightning connection cable (with an simple interface) does not give you the ability to import/export photos and video from one photo library to the other if both are using iOS.

Apple and all these other tech companies are all fixated on this cloud idea where everything is saved in the cloud and data is shared via some kind of cyber transfer. That's all well and good except when you can't connect to anything via wifi nor cellular. Yes there are places in the world where there is NO connection available.

As I understand it even Airdrop needs wifi. Since both devices are bluetooth capable why can't you just put both devices next to each other and use bluetooth to transfer the photos or videos?

Or better yet, make a lightning-to-lightning cable that actually does the job instead of having to buy some $50 wireless drive.

Are you listening Apple?

No, because there's nothing you can do with them connected like that. You would not be able to transfer files because there's no interface for a connection like that.

At best you could try the Camera connection Kit and see if one of them is picked up by the other as a digital camera. Though not sure that will work.

And my suggestion will work just fine in such an area.

Both of those options could impair the security of the device.

An Apple branded lightning cable costs $30. So, $50 for something that also provides storage seems not unreasonable.

No, Apple isn't reading here. Use the Feedback page to let them know what you'd like to see:

While AirDrop uses Wifi for transfers, it doesn't actually require a Wifi network be present. The devices will create their own ad-hoc wifi connection between each other and transfer the files directly. You could be in the middle of the forest with just 2 devices, and no cell reception and still use AirDrop to transfer files.

The design of iOS is such that there is no direct access to the file system, so no way for one device to view files on another device. This is for security purposes.

And as Meg points out, this is a user to user forum, Apple does not really read these forums. So If you want them to read your suggestions, use the feedback link.
