iCloud got hacked?

Find my iPhone was activated and everything when it was stolen and it was even on LOST MODE with the numbers in front and the thief turned off the phone for a while but they'll turn it on once in a while all day yesterday, but today I got an email saying that someone resetted by pw and I of course freaked out and changed my PW ASAP but I noticed that they erased my stolen iPhone off of the Find my iPhone list.... and the phone seems to be off or on airplane mode since they will not pick up. I think the guy who stole it just sold it at the pawn shop and now professionals are trying to sell the stolen iPhone. I reported to the local police station and everything and luckily I got an email of every location they've been at when they turned on the phone but I was wondering if there was a solution to this? I've only had the phone for 3 months

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2

You may have had an easy-to-guess password, or fell for a phishing attempt at some point. You can prevent this from happening again by enabling two-step verification: Frequently asked questions about two-step verification for Apple ID - Apple Support. That way, someone would need not only physical access to your device, but also knowledge of the passcode you use to unlock the phone, in order to access your Apple ID account.

Best of luck in recovering your phone. Since you have the previous locations where the phone was, the police should have a better chance of tracking it down.
