Why might Server 10.6.8 have suddenly failed to recognise users?

i have a problem with my mini server that is connected in my office to 2 imac comp.

one is osx 10.8.5 memory 8 gb 1076 mhz ddr3 .

and the other is mac 10.6.8

i get the message- server failed to connect to the i mac.

i thank you for any idea
