Q: Help Me Diagnose - New Hard Drive - Turns on, goes to home screen, then crashes
Here's a run down of what happened. I have a macbook pro 15" mid 2009 model. The internal HDD failed. I also have a old macbook from 2008 and I know the HDD is good on that one. So I swapped the hard drive out of the 08 macbook and put it into the 09'. Now when I turn on the 09 computer it seems everything is working properly, goes to the home screen, but heres the weird part: the computer operates completely as normal until I take my hand off the keyboard or mouse, in other words no activity for like 20 seconds, a notice pops up asking if I would like to shutdown, restart, go into sleep, and then about 5 seconds later it just shuts down on its own. I did a little research and determined that normally when you put in a new hard drive you need to reinstall osx, but is that applicable here since the hdd came out of another macbook that already had osx? If so, could that be the reason its shutting down? Just need to format the hdd/reinstall osx?
