Can you sync an apple watch to an ipad?
I know someone who got given an apple watch, they do not have an iphone only an ipad, can you sync the apple watch to the ipad?

No - you need an iPhone 5 or later to pair and sync with Apple Watch.
It cannot be paired or synced with any other iOS devices (including iPad) or with any other Apple device.
