Jan 15, 2016 11:33 AM in response to Rational Beefby GhonaZ,★HelpfulYes it is a relatively easy job to do, but is it worth it to upgrade a macbook from 2007? It's a very old machine and it may not last that long. I wouldn't recommend it.
However.
Replacing the harddrive is easy. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Core+Duo+Hard+Drive+Replacement/282
Installing bootcamp is also pretty straight forward Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support (please note that you will need a 32-bit version of windows 7)
Battery can be changed super easy. You only need a coin to do that.
further more mac differs from windows in that it is more pre-definded and the settings are a located a little differently. Also everything you do with control is now with command (so cmd+C and cmd+V).
Conclusion: Yes you can use the macbook you could buy, but you need to consider the costs of upgrading (you most likely will need more RAM as well to run any of today's programs) and how long you will be using this laptop.
Cheers!

With a Windows PC I can use a program called Acronis True Image to clone my existing HDD to a new (and larger) HDD.
Is there a similar (and Free like Acronis was) for Macs running Mac OS X 10.7 Lion??

Jan 15, 2016 2:29 PM in response to Rational Beefby Mike Sombrio,Disk Utility is free and included with OS X. It's in your Utilities folder. The other two are $60 and $40 although CCC does offer a free 30 day trial. I have used CCC in the past but have switched to SuperDuper Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support which is free to use the basic functions but a paid app for advanced features.
