Bug in El Capitan vs Adobe Creative Suite 4 is Apple Problem

I've brought this up before, and my only answers have been to update the Adobe CS4 software-- the Apple answer-- which is an expensive proposition, and one I can't do for the newsletter I create is for a small non-profit or send back the new iMac-- the Adobe answer. But I looked at predicted software problems on the Apple web site, and problems between El Capitan and Adobe Illustrator CS4 are not indicated.

Illustrator works fine until it comes time to save a file, or export a file, and Illustrator crashes. All work is lost. It can't seem to find it's way through the file system. Oddly enough, if you save the file as a template, it seems to work. At least it did once.

I am running OS X El Capitan 10.11.2. on my MacBook Pro. Illustrator CS4 works perfectly on the lap top. Since it works on the MacBook Pro, it should also work on the iMac. There has got to be a way.

I do have a theory now.

There were no warnings in the migration to El Capitan list about Illustrator.

Illustrator runs on the MacBook Pro with the same version of El Capitan.

The problem on the iMac is only on retrieving and saving, and save as, files. It makes me think there is something wrong with the directory structure.

I got to wondering what was different between the MacBook Pro and iMac. Since the problem seems to be navigating the directory system that causes the crashes, I'm wondering whether it could be the new 2 T Fusion drive on the iMac. Isn't this the first model with the Fusion drive?

this may or may not work depending on mitigating factors such as existing 3rd party software or connected devices. Remove any connected device that is unnecessary for installation and do not have any mac cleaning, keeping or otherwise anti-virus software installed on your computer as these have been linked to causing far more issues they they purport to remedy.

Back up your system with Time Machine

Uninstall CS 4 from Adobes website directions

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/uninstall-creative-suite-4-point.html

create an account with administrative rights

>System Preferences...>Users and Groups

click the "+" create the account, allow it to adminsitrate

boot to that account.

reinstall the CS 4 application from the original media to the default location

open photoshop, and update the application. If photoshop asks you for Java download the Apple 2015 java from this link.

Download Java for OS X 2015-001

Note: CS4 allows you to install on two computers but you may only use one instance of the application at any time between those two computers.

Since neither Adobe or Apple support CS4 do not expect a fix from Adobe, they want you to buy CC2015 or Apple, they won't fix other developers software problems. There were no warnings as to your migration because when you install CS4 you will be notified the developer can not be identified. this is because CS4 was developed long before Apple gatekeeper database and will not be recognized due to it's age.
