Q: macbook pro mid-2010 deleted mac parition and now will not boot

my macbook had windows and mac partition and accidentally i deleted mac partition before this it was shutting down due to getting too hot or some memory issue. Now i do not have mac parition windows runs fine for 1 minute and then shuts off to white screen sometimes grey screen or some random color. when i try to install brand new os x from hard drive everything goes good with i boot using option key it starts loading and then goes to white screen at random time mostly withing minutes. i have tried resetting PRAM and did not work.  I tried using fsck- fy it shows hard drive mounted properly but read only does it mean PRAM is not working. How do i fix this?

To me it apears that either your Mac has a hardware problem or that the format/file on the HD are messed up and it tryies to boot to a Recovery partion and gets confused bevause of what it reads on the disk.

If you disconnect the internal disk and connect a SB non-system disk then if you can boot to Internet Recovery that indicates a problem with the internal drive.

I went to Apple store and guy ran hardware test everything came normal and at the end of process my macbook died then he started again same thing happened he brought external display and it started giving one beep which is cannot read RAM then he says it might be logic board or GPU and gave me quote of 600 i said but 2011 and onwards had some GPU issue and they fixed it for free he said your is 2010 so it will not be covered. How do i get them to fix this or howcan i fix it by myself ?

Sorry to hear about your computer DeeJay

The only way to tell for sure what is going on if hardware, is to open it up, disassemble and trouble shoot. Not really a DIY affair. My guess is that you have an nVIDIA GPU and during that time there were lots of reports of bad solder being used.

You can Google oven repair of NVIDIA GPUs and consider trying it. If a close visual inspection shows some bad solder, you can also use a handheld heat gun to reflow the solder instead of the oven trick. Considering your computer is currently toast anyway and you don't want to spend the money for repair, you have nothing to lose. Of course the next problem is that even if you manage to get it working, the next time it gets really hot, you may be right back here again.

iFixit has excellent step by step repair guides for how to disassemble/reassemble your computer.

While Apple does an excellent job of refurbishing older laptops, for $600.00 you could buy a slightly newer used computer. You could also consider spending that money towards a new computer.

Apple was not the only manufacture that had problems with nVidia GPUs

    Good Luck, Greg

If i post a photo of my logic board would it be easier for you to see if it has bad soldering i am not really a good at fixing stuff more like breaking expert haha but yes i can try oven trick i really want to try my all best before i throw this laptop from my balcony.

"If i post a photo of my logic board would it be easier for you to see if it has bad soldering"

    No, not really.

I do from time to time repair circuit boards/computers, but "seeing" means careful examination with a magnifying glass and then I normally go after connections with a multi-tester checking continuity and ohms. Maybe even an oscilloscope.

The truth also is that sometimes you just won't see anything. Other times, you do see something obvious and if you are very lucky, it is where you can get to it.

Since the GPU is a separate chip on the Logic board, you can at least look where it connects. Discoloration or seeing solder pulled away from the contact points are would be the first things I would look for.

Sorry I can't be more help, but long distance remote circuit board repairs are really beyond my help.

    Greg

I doubt it since the previous solder problems were between the GPU and logic board. They were under the GPU so they were not visible.
