    One last point:

Be careful when you sync the Apple TV because it has settings (you make on it in iTunes) which determine if all or only selected pictures, music, or movies are copied to the ATV.  Once you get these properly set you should be fine.  I don' t think however you want all your pictures, music, or movies on your iMac if it is a personal machine getting displayed in the lobby...

I have a code, but the Apple TV doesn't show up in devices in iTunes. Both my iMac and the Apple TV are on the same wireless network.

If the ATV was restored and updated it should show up.  There may be some port issue with how the network is configured preventing it from being visible.

I would simply go to the lobby, unplug the ATV and take the ATV, the power cord, and an Ethernet cable back to your iMac.  Plug the ATV power cord in at your desk connecting the Ethernet between the iMac and ATV and see if it is visible in iTunes then.  Sync the ATV then disconnect everything and return it to the lobby and hook it all back up.

I have even signed on to the Apple TV with my iTunes account, but still no Apple TV in iTunes devices.

That pretty much confirms the ATV is working fine but the wireless network has a configuration issue.  The iMac can't see the ATV.  Do it directly wired and it should work fine so at least you can update it for now.  After that, if you are buddies with the school IT person, maybe they can change the port settings.  I will try and find which ones it needs but it may take some digging.

I finally got a screen to put in the 5 digit code, then I got the blue AppleTV icon in iTunes, it shows it has 144.53 GB free, but still cannot sync.

It's like it's being detected on the network, but still can't sync.

Finally got it to sync. It took a lot longer to sync than I thought, so I probably wasn't waiting long enough.

Thanks Vinceassociate for all the help

Very glad you got it to work.  The sync (especially the first) does take a long time over WiFi so you have to be very patient.

Thanks for being patient with all my questions back and forth because as you know doing this over the internet is slow going vs being there in person.

The amazing part is this ATV is very old and it still works with iTunes.  Kudos to Apple for support!
