maps offline

Hi. I'm seeing a lot of people having trouble with offline maps on their IPad Air 2. (I used to do this regularly on my android tablet with no problems)

I, too, am having problems and need help, please.

My Pad is running the latest IOS 9.2 and is a wifi only model.

In particular, I use this tablet with my DJI Phantom 3 Professional "drone".....and so far no helpful info from them.

I have no data plan on the tablet as it's wifi only, and I don't have a data plan on my phone, either. So, offline maps are helpful when out on site, possibly way out in the country in farmland where there's a cell dead zone anyway.

The IOS map app doesn't seem to have a "download offline map" option.

Google maps does, but it isn't working properly (not on my android anymore, either).

When connected to wifi, I can download an offline google maps map, but I used to be able to zoom in to a "tight area" and save that map. Now, it downloads a MUCH greater area than what I desire. But, seemingly no problem...if it works...and it doesn't.

When I turn off wifi or go to an area with no connection and pull up that downloaded offline map, it shows a very small map of that area on the screen, most of the screen is empty white space, I cannot zoom in or out...or do anything with that little map that I can see, and I'm prompted to either delete that offline map or update it, even though I downloaded it only minutes before. Sooo, it's not working. And, like I said above, it's not working on my android tablet now, either.

Anyone else having similar problems?

Looking through similar threads and the app store, there are other map apps, but I'd really like to figure out how to get the installed IOS map or google maps app to download offline maps "properly"...as right now, both are rendered useless to me.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!
