I can't find my documents folder. I have search my entire iMac....any ideas on where it might be?

A few days ago I attempted to drag & drop my "Documents" file to a remote disk (for quick backup) and now that folder appears to have vanished! Not only did it NOT land in the backup, but now it does not even appear to be on my Mac! Help! I had subfolders set up with tons of documents in each one and even though I've searched for specific documents that I KNOW were included, I can't find them!

iMac, iOS 9.2

normally it's located in

/Users/<YourUserName>/Documents

Did you do a search for "Documents" (without the quotes) on "This Mac"? Give it time to search the entire drive.

When you attempted to do the drag and drop, were you dragging it to an icon on the desktop? If so, the Documents folder is probably on your desktop.

or did you drag it to an open finder window? If so, the Documents folder is probably in that directory that you open in the Finder window.

Thank you all SO MUCH! BLESS YOU ALL for your brilliance and willingness to lend advice! I found them! WHEW! Not sure how they landed where they did but I have them back! My worst fear was that they somehow got "dropped" in the trash and that I had "emptied" them. You all just MADE MY WEEK! Thank you again!
