No sound on iMac after opening final cut pro x

Here is a stumper...

OS X 10.7.5

Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6

I use FCPX daily to edit wedding videos, I have never seen this issue before...

Problem:

Recently, once I open FCPX, the sound on my computer stops working, and I have to restart the computer to fix the problem.

Description:

When the computer turns on, I can hear the start up sound. After I log in, I can hear the volume sound when clicking volume +/-, I can even try iTunes or YouTube- sound works fine. Then, as soon as I open Final Cut, and play my timeline, the sound is turned off. the Volume +/- sound cannot be heard, iTunes, Youtube, nothing. The only way to correct it is to restart the computer.

This has only been happening the last 2 weeks on and off. It seems to be getting more frequent, and I am working on a different project than when it started, so I don't think that's what it is either.

Has anyone had this happen before or have an idea how to fix it?

Do you have more than one output option? Say, an external monitor hooked up with audio [HDMI] or a USB audio interface? I find my USB audio interface cuts out every so often (also with FCPX). I usually unplug the USB cable (hooked up to my keyboard) and replug it in. That resets the audio for that device. But I also suggest you switch to another device then back to the one that cut out (if you have the option to do so). If you go into System Preferences > Audio there is a Show Volume in menu bar option at the bottom of the dialog. Select that. To switch audio outs, hold down the option key when you select the menu and choose one of the other outputs, then repeat to go back. Send feedback to Apple (Final Cut Pro menu > Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback) about the problem.

[For myself, I thought it was just my USB interface getting old (think it's about 15 years old now...LOL)].
