Q: Playlist with loved tracks ruined my music library

Hello,

I have a big problem regarding with iTunes. For clarification, the producs that i use are:

- iTunes Match

- Apple Music

On the following devices:

- iTunes for PC (Windows 10, updated yesterday)

- iTunes for MacBook Pro (12.3.2.35)

- Music App for iOS (iPhone 6 iOS 9.2)

Chronological circumstances, as follows.

1. I chose to create a smart playlist with the liked (or loved) tracks, recognizable by the heart, has been successfully implemented within seconds.

2. Smart Playlists can't be shared with other users, so I made a normal playlist and added the smart playlist. This is also completed successfully.

3. After some time, which suprised me, on my MacBook pro and iPhone 6: ALL TRACKS which i liked are placed in the back (with the mac) and placed in front (on the iPhone) AND all track numbers removed. See illustration.

Emphasis: I'm not talking about the playlist. But my music library on all my devices.

This is not the first time i contacted the Dutch Apple contactcenter. These 'products' are starting to work on my nerves.

ALSO: IT HAS BEEN 6 MONTHS FOR THIS OTHER PROBLEM, what is Apple doing? iTunes says that I'm not signed into Apple Music

The ordering is as expected for tracks with no track number. Why loving a track should cause that to happen is a mystery. Ideally all of you media would be stored on a least one of your computers and backed up so that information could be restored from the backup if necessary. See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested method.

It might be possible to repair the track numbers by temporarily renaming the iTunes Media folder (so the current data in the files cannot be read), use the shift-start-iTunes method to open a recent version of your library in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder that has the data that you want to recover, use a script called ExportImport to export the necessary information (this would need an edit if it is only to save track& disc numbers and counts), close iTunes. restore the original name of the iTunes Media folder, shift-start-iTunes to reconnect to the original library, and then import the exported data.

You could also report your findings via the relevant feedback form, e.g. iTunes Feedback, and/or make use of Apple Bug Reporting.

This doesn't work for when i use iTunes Match and Apple music. I followed your manual to make a backup but it didn't worked when i added the library in an other (clean) windows account.

My iTunes has 70% local files (on hdd) and 30% cloud files. How is it possible to make an backup of that? My files are not consolidated.

Cloning the library should work for everything apart perhaps for downloaded Apple Music tracks. I had a trial subscription which I used on a test library but I didn't get to experiment with it as much as I wanted.

No i meant i don't have any music in my iTunes directory. I do have all my music in other directories. So that's why your manual didn't work for me; it probably will work when i'm done consolidating my files (Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive - Apple Support)

Ah, see Make a split library portable.  If your library is in a portable shape you can restore it to any convenient path otherwise the media needs to be restored to the same paths it was backed up from.
