Howdy Dereck,
It sounds like what you want to do is have your son use his own Apple ID, rather than yours as he is currently, on his iPhone. Is that right?
It is recommended that each user have their own Apple ID. This makes sure that ownership of items purchased, such as music and apps, goes to the person using them. It maintains your privacy, so that emails, messages and passwords are only available to the person who should have them. See this article for more information - Use your own Apple ID for Family Sharing. In particular -
Avoid sharing an Apple ID
If you share the same Apple ID with a family member for iTunes & App Store purchases, certain services will treat you as the same person. You may see these and other issues:
- Apple Music family membership: Instead of receiving your own membership with your own library, you’ll share a library and recommendations with the other family member.
- iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases: If Family Sharing is ever stopped, the owner of the shared Apple ID will keep all purchases. You might lose access to everything in the account, including purchases you initiated.
- Podcasts, iBooks, and iTunes U: Podcast episodes, bookmarks, and iTunes U courses might sync according to the other family member’s preferences or be accidentally deleted.
So you will need to create an Apple ID for your son if you have not already done so. If he is under 13 years of age, this will need to be done using Family Sharing. See this article - Family Sharing and Apple ID for your child. Older children and adults can create an Apple ID using the steps in this article - Create and start using an Apple ID. IMPORTANT - If your son already has an Apple ID of his own, you should not create another one for him.
Once the Apple ID for your son has been created, he will want to enter it into the important places on his iPhone. This article tells about all the locations you may need to change the Apple ID in use on that phone - Where can I use my Apple ID?
Your iCloud account is for use by one Apple ID.

Best to you.
