I followed the instructions for setting up Home Sharing between my Mac and iPhone 6 but I don't get any music listing on my iPhone

I confirmed:

1) Devices are on the same network

2) I am logged into my AppleID with the same account

3) My OS's are up to date (Mac 10.11.2) (iPhone 9.2)
3) I closed iTunes and re-opened the App

4) I powered off my iPhone and restarted it (and confirmed all the above)

On my iPhone, I do see,under my music Library, the different "Genre's" listed (e.g. Classical, Recently Added, 90's Music, etc) but they are all empty.

Im hoping to see the music I have in iTunes on my Mac and play these songs from my iPhone.

Im thinking, the music that would be shared from my computer to my phone would have to be on the Cloud?

(I have not set any defaults to add my music to the Cloud as of yet).

Did you go to Settings>Music on your phone and sign into Home Sharing?

Yes.

I just posted an update. Does the music have to be on the Cloud?

Somehow Im thinking thats my problem.

No it wouldn't need to be in iCloud, but I think this article may have the steps you need:

Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices - Apple Support

I had this part in mind in particular:

To enjoy shared music on your iPhone or iPod touch through Home Sharing, open the Music app and tap My Music > Library. For iPad, just tap My Music. On the screen that appears, tap the category near the middle of the screen. Then tap Home Sharing and choose a shared Library to connect to.

Hey Gail,

I got it working!

I figured reboot my phone and restart iTunes on my Mac. Then in My Music on my phone I toggled into Playlist then back to Library and did the pull down Menu to select 'Albums' and now saw 'Home Sharing' at the bottom of the list. I selected that and all my albums are showing! I did set up Home Sharing on my phone via Setting/Music but I just now seemed to get the option in the Music app now. Odd. I don't recall seeing any Apple instructions to have to look for the item to check.

Its also good that my available storage in iCloud did not change (still under 5GB!). This is my first iPhone and Im not a fan of iCloud and Im not sure I need it with the way I have my system(s) configured.

Well, great! Glad you got it working. But again, the iCloud memory is not going to be affected by using Home Sharing.

iCloud memory is used for:

- Backups that you make of your iPhone (which you can set up to be automatic, and I highly recommend that you do so)

- iCloud Photo Library

- iCloud Drive documents

I would highly recommend that you set up automatic iCloud backups for your device. If you ever have to restore it, having a recent backup will ensure that you are able to restore it to the condition it was prior to the situation which required the restore. Also, the backup can be used to set up a new device, so that it looks like a mirror image of the phone you did the backup from. Automatic iCloud backups can be set up in Settings>iCloud - turn Backup on.
