Q: I have a 2012 iMac with a 27" screen can't turn on firewall?

There are two users on my iMac my husband and I. Checked to see if firewall was on. It was not. Tried to turn it back on

the machine would not let me. In permissions there is a remote user listed ID of 95 while I of course am 0. Should I be

concerned? Is someone using my computer remotely? When it is sleeping I hear the hard drive spin actively sometimes.

What should I do about this?

Hi there. Please follow the directions below to turn on your firewall.

Configuring the application firewall in OS X v10.6 and later

Use these steps to enable the application firewall:

    1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    2. Click Security or Security & Privacy.
    3. Click the Firewall tab.
    4. Unlock the pane by clicking the lock in the lower-left corner and enter the administrator username and password.
    5. Click "Turn On Firewall" or "Start" to enable the firewall.
    6. Click Advanced to customize the firewall configuration.

OS X: About the application firewall - Apple Support

    Best regards,

    Austin

there is a remote user listed ID of 95

    That's not a remote user.

I of course am 0. Should I be concerned?

If that's true, you should be very concerned, because you're logged in as root, which you should ordinarily never be. How do you know that your user ID is 0?

Thank you for your reply, I am 95. When the computer is sleeping, my 99' iMac was silent in sleep mode. But, I hear the hard drive spin a little on this 2012

computer, is there cause for concern, or is that normal?

I have been battling a severe illness since 2012 and right now my husband is on the computer. I have no idea of the user name or administrator's

password. Can you help me do a reset?
