Q: Feedback: The rating system

Hi there. I wanted to share some feedback with the hosts.

Currently, the answered/helpful system does not seem very obvious to users. Most times, users never bother to mark an answer helpful or mark a question solved. This causes many users to get frustrated and not bother to contribute. The more obvious the rating system is, the more people will want to contribute because they know they will get rewarded for their work. I think when people sign up for ASC, they should go through a tutorial that includes more information about the rating system. This way, it's fair.

Even when I do answer someone's question, they mark it as helpful instead of solved. This unanswered question issue also causes a lot of clutter on the forum because most people won't look at a thread if it is not solved. Making this system more clear would clean up a lot of duplicate threads.

The main issue is that people can't tell people about the system because it's not allowed, and people don't bother to ask.

These are just my thoughts on the issue.

Best regards,

Austin

Because of the NDA I declined my only invite.

Thank you to you and everyone else who has congratulated me! I really appreciate it and I'm glad you all have taken the time to discuss the ratings system with me!

    It really means a lot!

    Best regards,

    Austin

Yeah I wanted to ask how often do they have these so-called "conference calls" where they give sneak peeks at "exciting new features" (which, if they have been added, I haven't noticed any in the past three years, haha!).

    Best regards,

I was never invited for a conference call until I reached the lounge; I believe it's a myth for level 4. Not allowed to talk about the two I did listen to.

    * I believe * that if it is a myth, the Level Up User Tip needs editing - promises, promises...

    Aww I sure hope not!

You have to remember that Apple, as a company, is extremely careful not to share anything exciting until Mr. Cook makes an announcement......

I just saw this post. Haha, really did make me look like I was asking for points! That was a copy and paste error!

Partly because of all the points/thoughts by the previous posters and because some posters still try to ask for points even though it is not allowed (such as "hope this helps" or "hope this solved your problem" or "if it solved your problem, be sure to mark my answer"), I find the system extremely inaccurate and it will never be "fair" because you cannot compel anyone to award anything. More importantly, this is not what these communities should be about - they are about helping others. Since you can't rely on a 'solved' actually being the correct answer, it isn't effective at helping posters find the answer to their problems. I simply try to ignore the system. Many years ago, I got a 'nastygram' for saying "hope this solved your problem" and I have never again asked or hinted or mentioned anything about the system since unless the OP specifically asked about the system (see the ToU) - as it isn't reliable, I simply don't pay attention to it and do what I came to do: see if I can answer someone's question. I am much happier if someone posts back with "thank you" - that is a personal acknowledgement that you did something that helped and that made it worthwhile.

The main issue is that people can't tell people about the system because it's not allowed, and people don't bother to ask.

I don't see that as an issue because I am not here for points.

    Addendum:

I just happened to come across one of your recent posts and this is what you had at the end of it:

Let me know if this solves your problem. I hope you found this information useful.

    Best regards,

Back in the day before I was a Forum member there was a different numbering system. One morning all Level 4 contributors woke up to find they were now Level 6. I'm not sure for certain I think the Level 4 conference call perk may be a hold-over from that earlier day.  Now only Level 6 and abive are invited to the cinference calls. A much better perk is Level 6 Lounge membership. You don't worry you'll be Level 6 before you know it.

Yes, I did... I haven't exactly been following the thread in order and there were so many replies in such a short amount of time... I turned off email notifications and have yet to turn them back on from when you couldn't unsubscribe from stuff so I was getting hundreds of emails a day from ASC.
