pdf annotation preview & adobe reader compatibility

To add further colour, if I just annotate by: 1) highlight text; and 2) add a text box, then the pdf file saved by either "print->save as" or "export as pdf" will ONLY show the highlight but not the text.

But if I then add: 3) draw a geometric shape, and then save by either "print->save as" or "export as pdf", then the text box WILL show up along with the geometric shape.

Thanks, Eric, for the suggestion. Oddly I had not tried that idea because it used not to work and therefore I searched for alternate methods to save. I confirm however the current version of OSX Adobe Reader which just was updated Jan 13 seems to see text annotations added by just file->save. This version can also see the annotations added via Preview on PDFs many months ago which prior version of the Reader could not see.

So I guess my problem is solved. Thanks.

However, annotations in the form of text highlights will not show "properly" using the file->save method and will only show via file->export or file->print. So I guess I just need to do both (save & export) to get both text boxes & text highlights saved properly.
