zebra lp 2844-z setup but won't print

i'm trying to setup a zebra lp 2844-z thermal label printer. i installed the printer fine but every time i try to print something from the computer, it goes to the printer, acts like it is printing on the screen but nothing is happening with the printer. printing a test label on the printer works fine. any ideas on how to get it to work? thanks!
