It sounds like bluetooth isn't working correctly on your Mac after a recent update. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help you out here:
Your Bluetooth devices may suddenly become unresponsive, or Bluetooth features may not be available at all on your Mac.
Shut down your Mac, disconnect all USB devices for two minutes, start up, and re-connect your USB devices once again.

Resetting the PRAM/NVRAM will not resolve this issue.
