Editing in Photos

When editing photos in Photos, the 'Sharpen' facility does not appear to function, even if I take the slider right across. It worked extremely well in iPhoto. Am I failing to do something to activate 'Sharpen'?

Have you revealed the advanced controls for the Sharpen adjustment? Hover the pointer to the far right of the title "Sharpen" and click the downarrow to reveal the three additional elders:

Zoom in on the photo to 400% while trying to sharpen. You should be seeing an effect, if you increase "Edges" and "Falloff".

Most of the adjustments have advanced settings that you can reveal this way.

Thanks again leonie. Have now explored the various drop down options and can see subtle change. Subtle is certainly the word. I still regret the passing of iPhoto as I found the editing infinitely superior. Even the colour in my photos doesn't seem right e.g. the frosty photos I took last year make the garden look truly chilly; now with Photos they appear darkish and less defined yet I'm not doing anything different!

But thank you for your help; it answered my original query.

You're welcome.

Have you tried the advanced adjustments for light and color? They also have hidden menus for the advanced controls.

I like to use the Definition slider for a sharper look. It adds contrast, without adding too much saturation to the skin tones.
