Q: How to fix broken preferences

Jan 17, 2016 5:56 AMby arthur,Helpful- Are you using (or have you used in the past) any "cleaner" type utilities like CleanMyMac or MacKeeper? If you have, that may be the problem- they may have damaged your OS. In that case you need to start over, erase your HD, and reinstall the OS and your apps from scratch.
- Here's what I would try otherwise:
- backup
- Use disk utility to repair your hard drive (First Aid) https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201639
- If that doesn't work, reinstall El Cap over your current installation.
