Q: windows 19 in boot camp with el capitan

I've been trying to install windows 10 using boot camp and not having any luck in succeeding. I got the partition made in boot camp, got a windows 10 iso loaded onto a flash stick, got windows to install and accept the key. When it asks to load the drivers it comes back and say there are no drivers found. I have browsed everything including the windows dvd in the external drive.Where do I find the drivers so I can move on and finish this installation?

Thank You,

Peter

    1. What year/model is your Mac?

    2. If BCA is used to build the USB Installer, it automatically includes appropriate drivers.

Please see https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/assistant/6.0/ as a reference.

    1. You cannot copy the ISO to a USB and try to install it. Please see How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support for the procedure.

    2. You should download media from trusted sources. This - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home - is Microsoft's official download web site. Using this also helps in verifying if downloads are corrupted or not.

    3. Did you buy physical DVD media from the Apple store? if yes, then please see Create an ISO image for Boot Camp from Windows installation media - Apple Support to build an ISO from the DVD.

    4. Your 2015 iMac does not need a USB or a DVD and can use an ISO to build an installer which is stored on the iMac in a special partition called OSXRESERVED.

I would highly recommend using the official method to install Windows, otherwise you will wasting a lot of time, energy and possibly money to get W10 up and running.

I've tried a number of different ways and run into a roadblock somewhere along the way with each method. When I tried to make an ISO of my windows dvd, there is no "make new image" icon in disk utilities.

The link you have listed for windows download is the same place I was directed to to get the ISO file.

When I tried to load from the dvd, I got a message saying no file found.

I've tried following the Boot Camp instructions right on my machine but a lot of the screen shots shown are not like what come up at that step. When it tells me to click on something it's not available (greyed out) or not there.

How do I go about  step #4 using OSXRESERVED. I don't see any instructions leading to that method.

Thank You for all you suggestions and help. I've been at this for some time now and feel it shouldn't be this hard. I've built a few computers in the past and usually manage my way around pretty good but this one has me stumped. I also have a Mac Book Pro that I have installed Windows 7 on using Fusion with no problem at all but the version of Fusion will not work on this machine.

Thanks again for any and all help,

    Peter

Under Disk Utility -> File -> New Image (the linked article shows the Yosemite and older DU screens). This UI changed in El Capitan.

The screens look different between BC 5 and BC6 (El Capitan) but the functions are equivalent. On your specific Mac, OSXRESERVED is rebuilt/overwritten when you try to install Windows. If the Installer does not start, run the SMC/NVRAM reset after disconnecting all external storage and retry BCA.

Fusion is a very different animal compared to BCA.

    Loner T,

Thank You once again for your help. File >New Image did it! Once I did that, I went back and started over by undoing the Boot Camp partition then started fresh and it worked. I guess I got hung up on the different versions and the instructions not matching the version I have. I would have thought the BC instructions loaded on my machine would be for the version of OXZ 10 and Boot Camp that I have but I guess they are not up to date.

    Thanks again for the help!

Please backup OS X, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point.
