Q: Cannot upgrade any apps that require a login
I've had this problem on and off since the summer: as soon I have to login to update an app, the app store fails. My login is fine and the update process starts but quits after about 30 seconds telling me I have to switch to the "purchased items" (note to Apple the German translation is poor). Of course, even when I do switch to the purchases pane the problem persists. The same problem exists when trying to install any new items there, even free ones.
I initially had this problem with XCode 7. I spent well over an hour with Apple's telephone support trying to fix this including removing it and running traces. They dropped the ball for several weeks and when I did get back in touch they had no solutlon. At some point in October the problem the seem to resolve itself but has since recurred and is currently preventing me from upgrading to OS X 10.11.
I've enabled debug mode for the app store and tried the various options all to no avail. I can't see anything particular except for `storedownloadd(488) deny file-read-data /dev`
Has anyone else experienced something similar and managed to fix it?
MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Thanks very much for your time and patience on this. It looks like reinstalling the OS has helped resolve the problems XCode is finally starting to update though it took about 10 minutes for the download to start.
