My new MacBook Pro with El Capitan OS X 10.11.2 can't find print or scan drivers on the install cd for my Cannon MP470 Pixma Printer. Is there an Apple software driver fix that I can apply?

Go to Canon's web site and get the correct driver for your operating system.
The printer and scanner driver that Canon released for the MP470 was for OS X 10.9. They should install and operate on OS X 10.11 so here is a link to the v10.84 printer driver and the ICA scanner driver. Note the ICA driver is for scanning with Image Capture and Preview.
Canon also provides a scanning application called MP Navigator. To use MP Navigator you will need to install the MP470 scanner driver.

I had installed an even newer version of the driver, then based on some recommendations on this site, tried to remove the printer and re-add it. Now I can't even get the old driver to come up. On my latest trip to the Canon site, I tried to download software yet again, and got this response: "There is no driver for the OS Version you selected. The driver may be included in your OS or you may not need a driver."
Mac has told me in plain language that they don't have a driver for this printer. I'm starting to worry that this printer, in perfect condition, is entirely unsupported by my new computer. OS X 10.11.6
