emailing using Mail & Contacts

I have spent way too much time trying to find an answer to this. It was easy as pie in my previous OS, I have 10.9.5 now. This sounds like it should be easy but I can't find an answer.

I want to send an email message to several addresses in one of my groups but not to everyone in the group. A mass mailing, if you will, but to specific persons in the group but not to all in the group.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
