Q: Overlaying still photos/slides in video for iMovie 2.2.1

As the title suggests, I'm having trouble overlaying still photos/slides into my iMovie (2.2.1) video for my iPad Mini.  Overlaying videos into other videos is easy, but overlaying photos seem to be more problematic for some reason.  If it's simply not possible, I was further wondering if it would be possible to video record still photos/slides and overlay them that way.  I have searched around, but have no idea how to do this.  Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated.  Thanks.

It's currently not possible in iMovie to add a still image as an overlay. Dumb... I know... but If you need a way to do it try this:

    Create a new project.

Add a photo (or series of photos) to the timeline

Make sure to turn off the Ken Burns effect (pictures zooming and panning) so that the pictures do not move

Make sure there are no animated transitions between the photos

Save the movie to your Camera Roll at the highest quality setting.

    Now..

Open the project in which you want to have those 'stills' overlaid and add the video you just created (trimming as needed for each "photo")

Make sure to *not* delete the file from your Photos app until your are completely done with your project and have exported your finished movie
