My 2010 Mac Pro Desktop won't upload my 30,000 pics to iCloud

I have a Mid 2010 Mac Pro Desktop that has about 30,000 pictures on it. It's a 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Xeon with 16 Gigs of Ram.

It's running SUPER slow and when I tried it the first time it stopped working saying something about it now having enough memory. If it happens again I'll post exactly what it said.

Basically I have 1TB of iCloud storage so that is easily enough room. I haven't used my Mac Pro for a couple of years and updated it to El Captain so I don't really see that being a problem either.

It says it's uploading but is happening so slowly that it will take me a week (if it doesn't crash again that is).

My idea is that I want to sell my Mac Pro but want to get all the photos off it and on to iCLoud.

Any suggestions?

See the following as it may apply to you - My Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Sharing limits - Apple Support

If you don't need to share your photos you could turn those features off so you only upload to non-shared albums.

That's seems perfectly reasonable given the number of photos you have, I had around 20,000 they took a fortnight.

The thing is that I have about 20k photos on my Mac Pro that aren't on iCloud and I want to sell my Mac Pro. So maybe I should just buy a harddrive and back them all up ya think?

If you want to sell it quickly, yes, you might be better getting an external drive or thumb drive (depending on the size of your library)

Another thought...

If you intend buying another Mac, you may want to copy your library file to preserve all of the metadata you may have added to to your photos overtime. If you aren't going to get another Mac, you may be best exporting the photos as originals into folder(s).
