I haven't been able to receive mail this morning but can send it. I checked under 'Preferences' 'Accounts' and the Incoming Mail Server is grayed out. I can't make any changes to that. Is this a problem on my computer or is it with the server?
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
I went through all these steps and the incoming mail still does not work. I even deleted my email account and reinstalled it without any success.
After going through all the suggestions from the Apple Community forum I finally contacted my server and the problem was at their end. It did feel more like a software glitch in mail but I was wrong. Thanks for your reply.

In Mail under Account Preferences my incoming mail server is grayed out and I can receive mail.
