How to make a double Y axe graph with a X not as category

I wish to make a graph with two curves (data points) with the X axis which is a scale. While doing it, the X axis use the values from the X column as category. Especially if the data are not regularly spaced, this give a wrong graph.

Thanks in advance for your help

It's hard to tell exactly what you are looking for. Perhaps you could look at the 'Charting Basics' template (File > New in your menu) and find what you need there. Since your data is not regularly spaced it sounds as if you may need a '2D Scatter' plot rather than a '2D Line' chart. Note that you do not want a column defined as a Header Column when doing a scatter plot. But when doing a line chart you must have a Header Column.

What you are asking for isn't built into Numbers. It would take some work to do it. The basic idea is to create two different scatter charts, one for each of the two series, then overlay them so they look like one. But there is a lot more to it than that. I do not know of a way to get Numbers to put the Y axis numbers on the right side (but maybe there is, I don't chart stuff very often anymore) so your right-hand Y axis numbering will have to be created by hand, either with text boxes or a one-column table. You also have to lock in a few things on each table such as X axis min and max, Y axis mins and maxes, the number of Y axis steps should be the same. You will turn off some chart features on the second chart such as axis lines, grid lines, X and Y axis labels. You will have to manually choose the colors for each series. You will manually have to align the two charts and align the legends. I have probably left a few things out but this should get you started.

Thanks to SGIII and Badunit.

SGIII sorry for not using the correct terms. My English is not perfect but especially I am using a French version of Number and then some terms are not easy to translate.

I will try the proposal of Badunit. However, it is pity that Number today is less powerful than Cricket Graph ... 25 year ago (people that was using it will certainly agree). Number is wonderful but the graph system need some improvement.

Let wait next version.

Hi Denis,

Not a problem. I would certainly have a problem describing a Numbers problem in French. The screenshots really help.

Curious how you put that chart together.

Already a long job, after consulting the manuel of Number from apple support page 183,

1) I select data from 4 columns

2) click on the graph image in the menu bar

3) select format > Graphic > type of Graphic > 2 axes 2D

4) I got a mix graph (scatter + bar chart),

5) from the inspecteur, I was able to transform the bar chart in scatter graph

6) than I was blocked
