My external HD died. How do I restore the files from Time Machine to a different HD?
Since the HD is no longer listed on the TM menu the documents are not listed. I know they are there but how do I retrieve them?
Try Disk Utility.

Try using Disk Utility/Restore to copy the backup to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition.
