Is it bad to have a phone under your pillow?

That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard lately. You need to seriously rethink your sources of scientific information and reading material.

However, I would recommend you not put your phone under your pillow while charging. What could possibly get damaged is the phone if it overheats.

With the phone between a soft pillow and a mattress, it could easily get bent if you push down on the pillow with enough force. Or as mentioned, it could overheat. Just seems a very silly thing to do with an expensive electronic device.

That is silly. But why do you even bother to put it under your pillow? You can put it anywhere just to charge it.
