iCloud photos not showing up in iPhone

I used to store all my iPhone photos in the iCloud and see them in the phone's pictures app. The thing is that one day my iCloud photos just stopped showing up in my iPhone. If i go to the iCloud settings it says that i have all my 900+ photos but they are not showing up at all in the pictures app. When i open iCloud using the computer i can see and download all my pictures so i know they are there but i want to see them in my iPhone and i don't have enough space in there to save them all so i really need to use iCloud to have them in there.

I tried turning iCloud on and off on the phone but it doesn't seem to help. It's very strange that even though the phone settings says that i have all the photos they just don't appear in any of my albums, please help me!

If you don't have enough room for them on the phone, you may wish to turn on optimisation.

You mentioned turning on/off Photos under iCloud settings but have you considered logging out of the iCloud account on the device, waiting a few, then logging back in to see if that might resolve it?

No, it actually has enough space to fit twice the ammount of pictures i have on iCloud.

Can I check that you aren't confusing photo stream and iCloud Photo Library, photo stream is hidden when iCloud Photo Library is enabled.

Have you tried force quitting the app or a hard restart on the phone.

I tried force quitting the app, but haven't tried a hard restart yet. Didn't want to do that just yet but it's probably my last resort.

A hard restart is a fairly soft option in my opinion, it's not something that should result in any problems.

Tell me, what exactly do you see instead of the photos, absolutely nothing, just the app framework but no photos or do you see blanks instead of the photos or something else.

The iCloud photos just are not there, absolutely nothing. When i open the photos app all i can see are the pictures i recently took with the iPhone, but not the iCloud ones.

Yeah, i can see them there. Also, i just found out that if i upload a new photo to my iCloud via other device, the new picture actually appears on my iPhone, so the problem only seems to happen with the pictures that are already there.

I know we have covered this before, but this sounds exactly like what would happen if you were using my photo stream and not iCloud photo library, what settings do you have on the phone at settings > Photos & camera.
