Jan 19, 2016 2:00 AM in response to Dylanmusicby Dylanmusic,I called my server and there is an outage in my area but the "news from appple"
still concerns me. It's asking me questions I don't know the answer to. My mail has always worked perfectly I don't to make any changes to
it. Someone here suggested unchecking the box for "news from apple" and ignoring it, Of course this did not fix the outage which is obviously my server's fault but going forward I want to understand what these "rules" mean and if I need to do anything with them. Thanks! I depend on e-mail everyday and hate when it's blocked. I do have the internet which is unusual because when there's an outage I usually lose both mail and internet.

News from Apple? (from your Manage My Apple ID page > https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage ? )
Could you be referring to "Security Questions"? > About Apple ID security questions - Apple Support

Jan 19, 2016 2:46 PM in response to Dylanmusicby Dylanmusic,I didn't call my server because the mail was restored in the morning. But I assume it had nothing to do with the following:
Under Mail>Rules, the exact wording is "news from Apple". Double clicking
it opens a long list of of options with minus and plus signs next to each one.
At the top it says if ANY or ALL (choose one) conditions are met ~ (at the bootom of the page after all the following text, it says PERFORM the following actions: Set color of messgae, stop evaluating rules, background color, Then it says Cancel or "OK".
If you click cancel it just reverts back to "news from Apple" but if you check OK it asks "Do you want to apply your rules in open mailboxes? NO or YES.
There is a long list (20 items) starting with the word FROM and if you click on FROM
you get a long list of mail preferences / next to this column is the heading CONTAINS - clicking on this shows the words
"contains". "does not contain", begins with", "ends with" and "is equal to". One has to be chosen. In the next column
are all Apple related websites. Next to each one is a plus or minus sign to be chosen.

About Apple ID security questions
Learn about Apple ID security questions, including how to set up or change your questions.
Apple uses security questions to provide you with a secondary method to identify yourself online or when contacting Apple Support. Security questions are designed to be memorable to you but hard for anyone else to guess. When used in conjunction with other identifying information, they help Apple verify that you're the person requesting access to your account.
You might be asked to answer one or more of your security questions before you can change your password or other account information, view your device details, or make an iTunes purchase from a new device.
If you don't want security questions or you're concerned about forgetting the answers, you can set up two-step verification or two-factor authentication. With two-step verification and two-factor authentication, you don't need security questions to secure your account or verify your identity.
Set up or change your security questions
- Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
- In the Security section, click Edit.
- If you already have security questions, you'll be asked to answer them before you continue. Forgot the answers?
- Click Change Questions. If you need to set them up, click Add Security Questions.
- Choose your new security questions, then enter the answers.
- Add and verify a rescue email address.
It's very important to remember the answers to your security questions to avoid being locked out of your account. And make sure you add and verify your rescue email address. If you forget the answers to your security questions, you'll need a rescue email address to help you reset them.
