I don't want to upgrade from Mavericks because some of the other software I have won't work with Yosemite or El Capitan. I want to install Final Cut Pro I already have the license, I just need an older version that will work with 10.9.5

LLog into the App Store in Mavericks with the Apple ID used to purchase it. You should see the app in the Purchases page.
I didn't purchased it from the App Store, I've got it through my university and all I have is the activation code. When I enter it to redeem it says I must upgrade to 10.10.4 to download it 😟
RRedemption codes are only valid for current versions I think. You might try contacting the university to see if they have archived a version that will work with your OS.
