I cannot add a gmail address to FaceTime because it says it is already in use. The no other device that i have that has this email connected to my apple id or could account. It was connected to another iCloud account but I deleted from that account. Any ideas? Using Yosemite on iMac and latest IOS

Thanks for the reply. As it turns out I had used the gmail address as a backup for an old iCloud that I do not use. So iCloud was preventing it from being used in FaceTime as my IOS device was signed in to a different iCloud account. So you cannot have one email attached to two iCloud accounts. So I had to go to AppleID and delete the gmail address from the old iCloud account.
You need to sign into FaceTime with your Apple ID.
