How to watch my movies on 4th gen apple tv

I just bought a 64gb apple tv 4th gen.

I assumed that the new apple tvs had harddrives so that you could put all of your own files onto it.

However, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have movies on my macbook that I would like to watch on my apple tv.

How do I do this? I have the vlc app so I can watch any format.

There is a usb port on the apple tv. Can I put movies onto the apple tv via that?

Really upset here. Thought it would a no brainer that you could load up the apple tv with whatever content you wanted.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

The original Apple TV in 2007 had local storage and synced like an iPod. It had automated settings such as sync 10 newest movies or 10 unwatched movies. While it would have been neat to sync all your media, the 160GB hard drive and selective syncing worked fine for me. My media far exceeded 160GB. Also if you wanted one not synced, you could simply switch on your computer and immediately stream what you want.

Sorry the current model did not meet your needs. They dropped the feature you wanted with ATV2.

In fact that prevented me from buying a newer model until I wanted the Airplay mirror feature.
